Villas de Maitre was founded by Julie and Hans Gauthier with a simple belief: the most memorable villa stays are born from genuine local knowledge, trusted relationships, and an instinct for quality that cannot be replicated by platforms.

Our journey began long before the company itself. Having lived in Mauritius with our young family, we experienced island life as residents rather than visitors — discovering quiet beaches, privately owned homes, and a way of living rarely encountered through traditional travel channels.

Those years shaped our understanding of what truly matters in a villa: privacy, setting, authenticity, and a sense of ease.

Every villa in our portfolio has been personally selected through long-standing friendships and trusted local connections. We look beyond aesthetics, choosing homes for their natural beachfront locations, architectural integrity, and the feeling they evoke the moment you arrive. These are villas we know intimately and would happily return to ourselves.

For nearly three decades, we have carefully refined our collection across Mauritius, the Seychelles, and the wider Indian Ocean — guided not by trends, but by experience and discernment. Growth has been deliberate, never rushed, and always rooted in quality.

Founded in 2003, Villas de Maitre was never intended to be a volume-driven rental business. It was created to offer something more considered — a highly personal, experience-led approach to private villa travel.

Our reservations team knows each property in detail and offers thoughtful, honest guidance, helping guests choose not simply the right villa, but the right location and lifestyle for their stay.

From complete independence to fully supported holidays, we arrange as much or as little as required — including private chefs, nannies, airport transfers, and tailored services ahead of arrival.
